IES Abroad

While we are forever commited to celebrating the amazing months dedicated to various identity backgrounds, we're shifting our focus to ensuring that these identities are uplifted year round and are kicking it off this year with Latinx Heritage Month. We'd like to showcase the stories, support, and resources geared towards Latinx students and study abroad over the years and to reinforce that this is continual work to foster and create a globally inclusive culture—not just for 30 days, but for a lifetime.

Check out the blogs, student voices, and events celebrating our students and alumni, and their heritage and authentic experiences over the past few years!

Student & Alumni Panel Discussions

✰ Voices from Abroad | A Student Conversation Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month

IES Abroad Correspondents who were studying abroad across several IES Abroad Centers came together to discuss their Latinx heritage and their experiences at home and abroad. Each of these students is an IDEA (Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad) Correspondent, which means, they're both open and committed to discussing their identity in their blog and social media posts. They joined us in virtually celebrating and listening as their stories jump from the [web]page to the Zoom screen from abroad.

✰ Juntos: Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Latinx Students, and the Future of Study Abroad

A student panel comprised of Latinx study abroad alumni will share their unique perspectives on their international academic experiences. Learn how Karen navigated and leveraged resources at her home institution and her advice for HSIs in increasing Latinx representation abroad. Hear how Yesenia’s service-learning program aided her journey to a fellowship in Congress with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) and admission to Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Learn how Omar’s launch of a student-led study abroad club set forth institutional change and how students can inspire others to go abroad after returning home.

We’re proud that our students are as dynamic as the countries where they study abroad. Learn more about our Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad and explore our identity resources.
