Why Remote?

University of Pennsylvania – Virtual English Language Program

At IES®, we’ve been offering quality, part-time internships for nearly 60 years and full-time internships with the introduction of IES Internships in 2013. You could kinda say we’re experts…and now, we’re bringing the internships to you with the IES® Remote Internship program. You’ll get the same hands-on (just not literally), professional experience you’d get abroad, while also gaining the remote working skills that are oh-so-important right now, plus an international component to boot.

Participating IES Abroad Destinations

In addition to choosing your internship industry and sharing your placement preferences, once you've applied, you can also indicate if you'd prefer that your host company or organization be based in one of the following IES Abroad destinations (and be sure to check back, as destinations may be added or vary by term). This may be especially useful if you need an internship conducted in a particular language or culture for your major, minor, or global learning requirement at your school.

Academics

While your priority may be gaining professional experience, we also know how important it is to build community where you can reflect and learn about the work world with other students. That's why we offer placements in a wide range of disciplines, and a supplemental required 3-credit seminar.

We work with you to fine-tune your résumé, perfect your cover letter, and hone your communication and interview skills as we prepare you for working in a new cultural environment. You’ll be guaranteed a placement at a local business or organization that fits your professional interests.

To supplement the real-life work experience you'll receive during your internship, you can participate in an optional internship seminar. You should work with your current college or university to learn about how this credit will transfer back to your school.

Courses

During the summer, you’ll have the option to enroll in a remote 3-credit or 6-credit academic seminar (no courses available during the semester) taught by IES Abroad faculty from one of our Centers abroad with other IES interns to complement the practical experience you gain during the internship for a greater understanding of remote work life.

Topics covered include understanding business culture, improving communication in the remote workplace, strengthening work attitude and aptitude, resolving conflicts, and navigating issues, challenges, and opportunities so you can succeed on the job in the future.

*IES Abroad transcripts are only awarded for internships in conjunction with the academic internship seminar.

NOTE: This is a list of planned course offerings. After you are accepted, you will see a list of final course offerings in your MyIESabroad account. Additionally, IES Abroad reserves the right to cancel a course due to insufficient enrollment or circumstances beyond our control.
