But have you wondered what you’d actually be doing while you intern in the summer? Because internship placements are based on your unique interests, everyone’s internship experience is one of a kind. With that in mind, here’s what a number of IES interns who worked around the world this summer did.
![]() | Legal Internship | Barcelona Summer Internship As part of the International Relations & Protocols Department, Anika connected with other countries’ similar organizations to coordinate events, prepared information packets for attorneys traveling internationally on behalf of the association, and completed daily tasks such as proofreading, translations, and legal research. ![]() | Medical Research Internship | Berlin Summer Internship Sophia interned at an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) research center performing technical microscope and physical lab work. She also conducted scoping reviews to examine: the foci of other related studies, what might be missing in the existing body of knowledge, and therefore what could be investigated in the future. Sophia was also able to direct her experience towards her interest in psychology-related projects. |

Social Media Marketing Internship ǀ Cape Town Summer Internship Tully interned at a digital marketing agency, which works with some of the leading brands in South Africa, from retail to real estate, as well as various international organizations from charities to chocolatiers. As a Marketing Intern, Tully primarily focused on social media with additional communications and media duties. Pictured second from right |
![]() | Energy Internship ǀ Dublin Summer Internship Zac interned at a renewable energy startup, whose current focus is rolling out solar energy in Ireland. Zac worked in all aspects of the business, including visiting job sites in Northern Ireland and conducting analysis work with both internally- and government-sourced data.

![]() | Content Marketing Internship ǀ London Summer Internship Hope worked as an Editorial and Content Intern for a digital marketing agency. She researched new business opportunities, wrote content for clients, shadowed team members across departments, assisted with photo and video shoots, attended meetings and contributed to brainstorm sessions, wrote and published a weekly blog post about her experience, and planned and presented a ‘Lunch & Learn’ for the staff. He worked on both the accounting and business administration teams to perform tax and auditing reporting and worked cross-departmentally to investigate potential balance sheet discrepancies. Giulia managed artwork inventory and catalogued artist portfolios, installed an exhibition for a new show, implemented a gallery management system, delivered materials to artist studios, managed all social media accounts, researched media contacts and drafted press releases, handled reception duties, and guided gallery visitors and tour groups. |

(Communications Major ǀ University of Minnesota) Jacques interned with a gastronomy podcast, which interviews French chefs about their lives. Jacques worked on cross-cultural marketing and making the podcast, which is based in France and recorded in French, more accessible to English speakers. ![]() | Government Internship ǀ Rome Summer Internship Kate interned with an Italian government agency that builds bridges between the people of Europe and the Arabian Gulf. She produced written work; monitored EU and Gulf policies and news; assisted senior staff in research; and attended conferences, seminars, and international relations-related events, while also helping with social media. For part of her internship, she performed research and learned about Chile’s rich literary culture and history by visiting a number of bookshops in various neighborhoods throughout the city that sell books published by the company. He utilized his skills in a solid-modeling, computer-aided design and engineering program to create parts, edited and assembled technical instruction booklets, and managed product supply forms. Kate’s duties included assisting clients in the surf shop, organizing lesson sessions using their booking software, taking photos during lessons and processing photos to present to clients and for marketing materials, and participating in daily operations. |

They conducted data analysis, processed expenses, published event pages on the website, edited publications for researchers, created presentations, attended various seminars, and participated in biweekly staff meetings. |
