IES Abroad Faculty-Led Awards Proposal Process Terms & Conditions

2024-2025

IES Abroad will be awarding a total of $50,000 in Faculty-Led Award grants to winning proposals submitted by faculty participating in the IES Abroad Faculty-Led Program Award Proposal process. Participation in the IES Abroad Faculty-Led Award Proposal Process is free. Submitting a proposal constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. A participant’s entry may be deemed void, in IES Abroad’s sole discretion, if it does not comply with these Terms and Conditions.

Entry is open to faculty at accredited U.S. universities and colleges. Faculty will have the opportunity to submit a proposal for a Faculty-Led Spring or Summer 2025 Program focused on one of three IES Abroad Global Pillars: 1) Sustainable Living, 2) Equitable Living, or  3) Human Well-Being. The proposed program must be located at any of the IES Abroad Centers and must start on or after January 1, 2025   and end on or before July 14, 2025. Proposals will be accepted from April 24, 2024 until August 1, 2024 at 4.30 p.m. CDT.

Entrants may submit up to two (2) proposal entry forms. Faculty may submit proposal entry forms with other faculty at their college or university. There is no limit to the number of proposal entry forms that may be submitted on behalf of any college or university, provided no faculty member submits more than two (2) proposals.

A panel consisting of IES Abroad’s staff members will select winning proposals. The panel will rank each proposal based on 1) how the location is used as a learning resource; 2) if academic excursions and field trips led by qualified guides are integrated into the program; 3) if the academic program engages students in the intellectual, political, cultural, and/or social institutions of the host country; 4) suggested topics for guest speakers and/or field trips; and 5) program length. Due to the short-term nature of these programs, the panel will give preference to programs taking place in the classroom and IES Abroad cannot guarantee internships and/or community-based learning opportunities if they are included as a program component.

Each winner will receive a grant towards running their winning proposal. Such grants will be awarded by IES Abroad, in its sole discretion, in the minimum amount of $5,000 per program and the maximum amount of $15,000 per program. In order to receive the grant, the faculty member, or their college or university, must recruit a minimum of ten students for the program. The grant funds may not be used towards the cost of participation for IES Abroad-approved guests. Winning will be contingent on the faculty member’s college or university entering into a contract for services with IES Abroad. Winners will forfeit the grant funds if a minimum of ten students are not recruited or if their college or university does not enter into a contract for services with IES Abroad.

IES Abroad will notify the winners via the faculty university email address entered on the proposal entry form no later than six weeks following the submission deadline. If a selected winner does not respond within seven (7) calendar days of an initial notification, an alternate winner may be selected and the initial winner will forfeit their grant.  IES Abroad will also announce the winners publicly on its website at  www.IESAbroad.org  and on IES Abroad’s social media profiles, including without limitation, Facebook and Twitter.

IES Abroad reserves the right to use the name, likeness, image, educational background, institutional affiliation and details regarding the winning faculty member(s) in its marketing efforts, including without limitation, on its public website and social media sites. The selected winner(s) will be required to participate in two verbal or written pieces for IES Abroad’s marketing purposes. These may include, but are not limited to, participating in videos or interviews or submitting blogs or short essays written by the faculty members.

IES Abroad reserves the right to contact faculty members who were not selected for a grant to discuss potential programs. IES Abroad also reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. These Terms and Conditions were last revised on April 23, 2024 and supersede the IES Abroad Faculty-Led Award Proposal Process Terms & Conditions.
