Seville is a hidden treasure, in my opinion. While abroad, everyone wants to leave Spain and travel to different parts of Europe, but I hope you'll consider visiting the south of Spain as it has so much to offer. While I was only there for a short period of time, visiting Seville was an absolute blast, and the views were impeccable. I went in September when Seville had temperatures up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so just keep that in mind if you do not tolerate the heat well!
Seville is a very walkable city with so much old-town charm. When there, you must visit the town circle/square where the Alcazar and Cathedral are located. You can enjoy a boat ride or eat paella outside, watching everyone walking and enjoying. I went to the Alcazar on my first day, which was absolutely beautiful. As I walked around this royal palace, I could not help but think about the times when royals lived there and waltzed around the hallways, performing their duties or lounging around. The most impressive part of the Alcazar was its vast size as well as the obvious Muslim influence on its architecture. The horseshoe arches, colors, designs, and inscriptions on the wall were all amazing to look at and characteristic of the influence of the Islamic invasion of Spain.
We also went to the Cathedral, which revealed incredible Gothic architecture and art. I saw cross-ribbed vaults and piers, helping me connect the information I am learning in my Art History Class to real life. Also, while in Seville, you must eat paella! We all got some paella, and it was probably the most well-seasoned dish I had while in Seville. The flavor and tenderness of the various meats were just incredible. I would also recommend bringing a scarf or clothing that covers your shoulders for when you visit the Cathedral.
