PS 350 - Child Development

This course explores child development from conception through middle childhood (age 12), including theories and methods, heredity, prenatal development, and children’s physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and moral development. This knowledge will be deepened by considering issues of diversity, culture and environment in each stage. Students will familiarize themselves with research methods, literature and ethical research practice pertaining to children. In order to fully integrate their learning, students will have the opportunity to conduct in-person observational study of children, incorporating developmental milestones and theories. Further, students will have the chance to gain in-depth understanding of developmental disorders via in-class presentations.
