IR/PO 350 - International Security & Geopolitics: A Spanish & European Perspective
Topics related to international security have reached a remarkable importance at the beginning of the 21st Century. The fast and deep transformation of society after the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the rise of new factors –globalization, climate change, migrations, nuclear proliferation and other weapons of mass destruction, the presence of non-state actors in national and international conflicts, the so-called asymmetric conflicts, organized crime and international terrorism- have provoked a radical change in the geopolitical conceptions and have revealed the existence of new risks and threats to international peace and security. The objective of the course is to provide an overview of this new environment, with a Spanish and European perspective, in order to understand the challenges of the global world.
