IES Abroad Amsterdam students witnessed history being made this past April. After 33 years, Queen Beatrix, 75, of the Netherlands abdicated the throne, making way for her son Willem-Alexander, 46, who became the first king of the Netherlands in 123 years. King Willem-Alexander was crowned on April 30 amidst the jubilant Queen’s Day celebrations. Our students donned their festive orange attire and joined the celebrations during this momentous occasion.
