Here at IES Abroad we pride ourselves on the incredible faculty members working at our Centers around the world. Our faculty members are not only well versed in their areas of study, they are engaging, consistently finding new ways to innovate in their fields, and they're award winning!
Recently, IES Abroad Siena Faculty Member, Daniele Lo Cascio, Ph.D., was awarded the National Renato Fucini Award for his sonnet Sbarchi. Dr. Lo Cascio teaches Italian and Anglo-American literature at IES Abroad Siena.
The Renato Fucini National Award is open to new and established authors and organized by the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Monterotondo Marittimo in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics of the University of Siena. The award celebrates two expressive forms of literature, the story and the sonnet, in memory of Renato Fucini, a native of Monterotondo Marittimo. This year, there were 117 entries for the stories category, and 109 entries for sonnets.
The entries were reviewed by a prominent jury of important members of the academic community, as well as known literary critics, including: Niccolò Scaffai, Contemporary Italian Literature - Université de Lausanne; Paolo di Paolo , writer, University of Rome; Giusi Marchetta, writer; and Simone Giusti, lecturer. The jury is chaired by Professor Natascia Tonelli from the Department of Philology and Criticism of Ancient and Modern Literatures at the University of Siena.
Congratulations to Dr. Daniele Lo Cascio! Be sure to read his sonnet (in Italian, of course!) below:
