This summer, Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago had their very own "when in Rome" experience, thanks to this fully IES Abroad-funded program. Following in the footsteps of Arrupe students who went to Barcelona in 2019 to follow the path of St. Ignatius, the Summer 2022 group explored the capital of Italy and its Jesuit past and present through the very same "Sophomore Seminar" course.
What better way to share their experiences than in the photos captured by the IES Abroad Rome staff? From arrival to Assisi (the birthplace of St. Francis, one of Italy's patron saints), and the pantheon to pasta making, Arrupe students and staff explored Catholic history and got a proper tour of Rome. Follow along on their journey with us!
About Arrupe College:
"Arrupe College is a two-year college of Loyola University Chicago that continues the Jesuit tradition of offering a rigorous liberal arts education to a diverse population, many of whom are the first in their family to pursue higher education.
Using an innovative model that ensures affordability while providing care for the whole person—intellectually, morally, and spiritually—Arrupe prepares its graduates to continue on to a bachelor’s program or move into meaningful employment. Heeding the call of its namesake, renowned Jesuit leader Pedro Arrupe, S.J., the college inspires its students to strive for excellence, work for justice, and become 'persons for others.'”
IES Abroad and Arrupe College share a commitment to diversity and experiential education making the collaboration a perfect fit for such a program, which is also the first of its kind for IES Abroad. Additionally, Arrupe College is connected to Loyola University, a valued member of the IES Abroad Consortium.
