In early October, our IES Abroad Diversity Relations team along with Michael Adewumi, Executive Vice President for Academic Programs and Provost; and Michael Green, Senior Associate Vice President for College Relations, hosted a special dinner in Chicago during the 2019 Annual Conference of the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU).
The dinner was a unique opportunity to bring together a dynamic group of talented and passionate professionals from across the U.S. to engage in important conversations around increasing student diversity in higher education and high-impact study abroad program experiences.
Esteemed guests included Dr. Antonio Flores, President of HACU, Dr. Felix Matos Rodriguez, newly-appointed Chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY), (and notably, the first Latinx chancellor of a large urban university system), and Stacy Berdejo, Outreach Coordinator for Senator Tammy Duckworth.
IES Abroad also hosted a booth at HACU's exhibit hall where there was an opportunity to engage with students and staff from dozens of HSIs across the country. The HACU weekend provided valuable insight into the important work that HSIs are doing to expand students' global study opportunities.
