We are excited to announce our new programs for 2013-2014!
Based on recommendations from our study abroad colleagues, student feedback, IES Abroad staff suggestions, and the results of our rigorous program evaluations and surveys, we believe the following new programs and Center locations will help us further meet the academic needs and desires of our students.
Details about the new programs below have been included in our 2013-14 catalogs which will be available soon.
NEW LOCATIONS
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Study Brazil (Spring 2013)
Led by Dr. Octavio di Leo (previously our Rome Center Director), students will immerse themselves in the dynamism and culture of exciting Brazil while choosing from a range of IES Abroad courses, a course taught at a local university, as well as an internship or service learning placement. - Kunming, China – China & Southeast Asian Studies (Fall 2013)
Led by Brian Eyler (previously our Beijing Center Director), this new program is based at prestigious Yunnan University and will explore the important regional economic, environmental, and development issues affecting China and its Southeast Asian neighbors. Field study trips throughout Yunnan and Southeast Asia will explore local and official responses to sustainability challenges.
NEW PROGRAMS - FALL 2013
- Cape Town – University of the Western Cape Direct Enrollment
Organized in partnership with Howard University, students directly enroll in the University of the Western Cape, a leading research university that is one of the most diverse in South Africa.
- Milan – Business Studies
Along with business courses taught by well-known experts in their fields, guest lecture series and an extensive list of field study opportunities will help students learn more about the Italian business culture in Italy’s commercial capital.
- Milan – Music: Tradition & Innovation
With a full-range of opportunities for instrumentalists, composers, vocalists, and performance majors, this program will be offered in partnership with both the Civica Scuola di Musica, the Conservatorio G. Verdi, and the Milano Classica Chamber Orchestra in the spring.
NEW PROGRAMS - SUMMER 2013
- Amsterdam – Society, Culture & Gender
Amsterdam is the perfect backdrop to study Art History, Literature, and Sociology through the lens of Gender Studies. - San Jos̩ – Language Intensive
Based in Heredia, a suburb of San Jos̩, our new four-week program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced students the chance to improve their Spanish skills. Two consecutive sessions are offered. - Vienna – Intensive Music Performance for Vocalists & Collaborative Pianists
Developed for serious vocalists and collaborative pianists, students spend three weeks improving their performance skills. - Vienna – Psychology
In the city where Freud, Adler, and Rank wrote their seminal works, students will focus on one of two specialties: Psychology & Society or Counseling & Health Psychology.
