from Jody Madler, Executive Director of Advancement
Dear Whitney,
Remember the Dr Seuss book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, that you used to ask me to read to you over and over again? For you this is a distant memory, for me it was only yesterday. Time truly flies! And now the time is near when you really will be “off to great places”!
First stop: college, where you’ll kick off your training wheels and set your own course, unfettered by your well-meaning parents. You will soon figure out your place in the collegiate world, and will think that you have your newly independent-self all figured out. We hope when this happens that you will make the courageous decision to embark on a test drive with a bigger scope and study abroad.
"There are diverse cultures, landscapes, ecosystems, lifestyles, and points of view that we want you to explore, experience and understand."
People say that the world is small, but really it is big! There are diverse cultures, landscapes, ecosystems, lifestyles, and points of view that we want you to explore, experience and understand. And just as in Dr. Seuss, you will have days where “boom bands” are playing, days when you feel “all alone”, and maybe even days when you are in “a slump”. All of these moments will cause you to revise, review, and grow. You will come through empowered. Future challenges will be rendered unthreatening.
That is the gift of study abroad.
We can’t wait to meet you all over again once you have been introduced to the world and the world to you. Oh, the places you will go!
Love you!
Love,
Mom
