In support of our goal to help as many students as possible study abroad, IES Abroad offered 862 awards to our Spring 2010 students, for a total of $1,202,650.
This brings the total amount of scholarship and aid money awarded during the 2009-10 academic year to $2,040,031—more than any other U.S.-based third party study abroad provider.
Merit-Based Scholarships
This semester we received 481 Merit-Based Scholarship applications. Of those applications, 49 awards were given totaling more than $74,650. The most popular scholarship categories included International Relations, Cross-Cultural & Comparative Studies, and Leadership & Community Involvement.
Diversity-Related Scholarships & Aid
We were pleased to award more than $18,500 in diversity-related scholarships this semester. Nine students received Merit-Based Diversity Scholarships, and one student received the new David Porter Diversity Scholarship. Additionally, 13 students were awarded HBCU Scholarships for a total of $26,000.
Need-Based Aid and Public University Grants
More than $1,071,500 was awarded in need-based aid and public university grants to a total of 774 recipients.
Legacy Scholarships
IES Abroad offers Legacy Scholarships to any student whose parent, legal guardian, grandparent, or sibling attended a past IES Abroad program. Sixteen IES Abroad Legacy Scholarships totaling $12,000 were awarded for the Spring 2010 semester.
