As part of our Ambassador Program, we award the IES Abroad Ambassador of the Month title to two Ambassadors who show exceptional dedication to international education outreach by taking part in a variety of outreach activities on campus and online.
Our June 2015 Ambassadors of the Month are Alain Sherman, Northwestern University (Arles Summer, Summer 2014) and Ashley Cha, University of Illinois at Chicago (Santiago - Study in Santiago, Fall 2014).
Alain Sherman is currently a student at Northwestern University in Chicago, and works regularly with his study abroad office as a peer advisor to promote education abroad opportunities. Alain has taken an active role in organizing and attending several study abroad related events on campus where he shared his insight about French culture with other students. This past January, Alain attended the Chicago-area Lessons from Abroad Conference, where he learned about careers related to international education and network with like-minded individuals. Additionally, Alain has worked through social media and email to further engage students considering studying abroad in France.
“Being an IES Abroad Ambassador has given me the invaluable opportunity to help prospective and current students along their study abroad journeys,” Alain says. “It has also allowed me to share my experiences with others and relive my vivid memories of my time abroad with IES Abroad.”
Ashley Cha works to promote study abroad on University of Illinois at Chicago’s campus through volunteering at study abroad fairs and study abroad information sessions. This past spring, Ashley attended a Chicago-area event for students planning to study with IES Abroad, where she shared her advice and insight about studying abroad and Chilean culture. Additionally, Ashley has assisted with social media outreach and emailing students from universities nationwide about international education. Like Alain, Ashley also attended the Chicago-area Lessons from Abroad Conference and provided excellent perspective about studying in South America.
In Ashley’s words, “Being an Ambassador gives me a chance to share my experience with peers who have a common interest in taking advantage of the ‘global classroom.’ I also love knowing that each semester there are new students embarking their journeys to the city and country I fell in love with!”
Congratulations Alain and Ashley!
