IES Internships, part of Chicago-based IES Abroad, will offer its first academic internships in the United States, starting with programming in Chicago during the summer of 2015.
IES Internships currently offers US college students internships in Barcelona, Spain; Dublin, Ireland, London, UK; Rome, Italy; and Sydney, Australia. The growing demand for academic internships prompted IES Internships to launch its US-based program in Chicago, a vibrant, dynamic and exciting location known for its world-class architecture, stunning lakefront, summer music festivals, diverse neighborhoods, and broad economic base and business community.
The IES Internships program in Chicago will offer guaranteed internship placements that will enhance students' professional skills and résumé, making each student more attractive to employers in today's competitive job market.
Before students even begin their academic internship, IES Internships will help students fine-tune their résumés, develop strong cover letters, hone their networking and interview skills, and prepare students for their new work environment.
Keith Dipple, executive director of IES Internships, noted that the organization will guarantee a placement at a local business or organization, where students will work from 32 to 40 hours a week.
"As an academic organization, IES Internships will also require that each student enroll in a 1- or 6-credit academic internship seminar with other IES interns," Dipple said. "In addition to on-the-job experience, the academic seminars and cultural activities will further our students' understanding of what it's like to work at a broad array of businesses and organizations."
IES Internships in Chicago will draw upon the resources and experience of its parent organization, IES Abroad, which for more than 60 years has provided over 100,000 US students with study abroad and internship experiences in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America.
All IES Internships students will receive full and complete assistance with housing and access to IES Abroad's 24/7 student services staff.
