Last night’s GoAbroad.com 2016 Innovation Awards Reception had us beaming with pride as two IES Abroad alumni won Innovation AwardsThe STA Travel Start the Adventure Award and Innovative Student Video Award! We were the only study abroad provider to receive multiple awards.

GoAbroad.com’s Innovation Awards recognize innovation in international education, and are presented annually at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference. We were honored to be named finalists in four categories this year—the most of any study abroad organization!—and to accept the awards on behalf of two of our outstanding alumni, Sergio Rodriguez Camarena and Adrienne Picciotto.

The STA Travel Start the Adventure Award - WINNER

This much-deserved award, which recognizes an individual making travel more accessible to students, goes to Sergio Rodriguez Camarena (IES Abroad European Union | Pomona College)—congratulations, Sergio!

As an undocumented student, Sergio was unable to travel internationally until new guidelines were developed under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2012. With the help of Pomona College's study abroad office, Sergio studied with us in the European Union during Fall 2014. After studying abroad, Sergio returned to Pomona College and served as an IES Abroad Ambassador, sharing his unique experience and helping others make their study abroad dreams a reality. Sergio was named one of our 2016 Ambassadors of the Year.

Innovative Student Video – WINNER

Congratulations to Abroad Sweet Abroad by Adrienne Picciotto!

Abroad Sweet Abroad by Adrienne Picciotto (IES Abroad Rome | Mount Holyoke College) earned the award of Innovative Student Video for capturing the true essence of a study abroad program by earning the most votes through the online poll.

Adrienne created this film for the 2015 IES Abroad Study Abroad Film Festival, in which she was named a finalist.
