IES Abroad will be participating in the 29th Annual Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Conference, in Miami October 10-12, 2015.
Gretchen Cook-Anderson, Director of Diversity Recruiting & Advising, and Antonio Villasenor, Diversity Relations Manager, will host a workshop on study abroad benefits and programs for hundreds of college-level student participants that is also open to local high schoolers and the general public. The session will be on the 11th from 3:30-4:45pm. IES Abroad will also host an exhibit booth throughout the HACU Conference.
Following a meaningful conference last fall, the big news this year is that IES Abroad is a newly minted member of HACU. “Hispanic students are the fastest-growing ethnic demographic of U.S. students embarking on study abroad, a trend that has been consistent the last few years,” said Cook-Anderson. “The Pew Hispanic Center projects that students identifying as Hispanic will make up 38% of U.S. college and university students by 2018. And, as their presence grows on campuses, they’re increasingly eager during their college years to explore the world around them.”
Our enrollment of Hispanic students rose more than 41% over the last four years.
HACU membership is another step in our sustained commitment to student diversity and access that also includes individual grants up to $5,000 for students attending HACU’s Hispanic-serving institutions.
