We are proud to announce that we have joined the Institute of International Education's Generation Study Abroad Initiative, aimed at doubling the number of U.S. students studying abroad over the next five years.
As part of this initiative, IES Abroad will intensify efforts to provide greater access to study abroad and international internship opportunities for more U.S. undergraduate students, including first generation and other underrepresented students through on-campus engagement, parent engagement, scholarships, and social media.
This new partnership strongly supports IES Abroad’s existing Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad (IDEA), through which we engage underrepresented students with opportunities like scholarships and financial aid, helpful resources, and outreach. In April 2014, IES Abroad’s Director of Diversity Recruiting & Advising Gretchen Cook-Anderson was recognized for making study abroad more accessible with Diversity Abroad’s Excellence in Diversifying International Education award.
