Each IES Abroad program offers engaging academic opportunities for students to experience while abroad. In addition to service learning placements, course-related excursions, and guest lecturers, the IES Abroad Buenos Aires Center offers an academic symposium each semester.

Throughout the semester, all IES Abroad Buenos Aires students are invited to work with faculty on a specific research project, and are invited to present their paper (in English or Spanish) to the entire Buenos Aires Center community. Papers can be based on specific academic course-related projects or on students' study abroad experiences, can be in Spanish or English, and are published at the end of the semester. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to hone their research, writing and public presentation skills.

The symposium showcased an eclectic combination of topics. “With a fascinating look at topics including corruption, wildlife conservation, local food, a day in the life at a public hospital, travels through Patagonia, poetry, the Brazilian crisis, U.S.-Argentine relations, and the music of Buenos Aires, our students' projects reflect their hard work and never cease to fascinate us locals, who find the viewpoint of our young U.S. college students on our society always a learning experience for ourselves,” said Center Director Juan Hudson.

Some of the courses associated with the symposium were:
