IES Abroad is proud to announce the launch of IES Internships, to provide US-based college students with high-quality internships in major cities in EuropeAsia, and Australia.

More than 90,000 college students have studied on IES Abroad programs since 1950, and limited numbers of internships have been offered as part of those programs for more than 40 years. IES Internships was formed to meet the growing demand from US college students for international internships, with the new unit now offering guaranteed placements, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with resumes and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students participating in a wide array of internships in some of the world's most exciting and vibrant cities.

IES Internships will offer full-time, unpaid summer internships in London, England; Rome, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; Dublin, Ireland; Sydney, Australia; and Shanghai, China.

"IES Internships is dedicated to offering internships that will develop students' professional skills and make them more attractive to employers in today's global workplace," said Dr. Mary Dwyer, president and chief executive officer of IES Abroad.  "IES Internships will help students enhance their understanding of the global workforce and establish their ability to navigate in and contribute to the growing world economy and workplace."

IES Internships works directly with students to match each student with an employer best suited to the student's career and academic goals.   Staff in each overseas city serves as a link between companies or organizations searching for interns and US-based students.

Before a student departs, IES Internships provides:

  • Resume/CV and cover letter review and fine-tuning
  • Interview skills practice
  • Techniques for networking
  • Cultural overview and preparation
  • Health and safety information

Depending on the program, students receive from one to nine academic credits, and spend from 22 to 40 hours per week at their placements.  Field trips are also offered to nearby areas of interest and courses will include guest speakers from the business, cultural, and academic worlds.

IES Internships also provides students with housing, as well as access to student services staff on-site that are available 24/7, drawing on IES Abroad's extensive experience sending students abroad.  Financial aid is available also.

A recent survey conducted by IES Abroad showed that students who had studied on IES Abroad programs found jobs faster and at a significantly higher salary than the average college graduate.

"Students with international work experience are very attractive to any business or organization seeking employees capable of thriving in a diverse, global, and dynamic workplace.  That's exactly what IES Internships hopes to offer its students--the ability to compete successfully in the workplace of the future," Dwyer said.
