Hello there!

When you can't travel, where do you go? Well, we go straight to our bookshelves. ➡️📚

During this pandemic, many of us have turned to books for an escape from the current reality or to take a deep look into our current reality. Whichever your choice, why not add a dash of study abroad inspiration? We've been reading articles like this one that talks about how “It is not natural for us to be this sedentary. Travel is in our genes." So let's keep future focused on our next adventure. 😉

Try out the best books to read before study abroad (if you're looking for an escape) and books to boost your intercultural competency from diverse global perspectives (if you're looking to expand your view). If that isn't enough, we're also geeking out about this website that matches you with books set in a location of your choice. 🗺️ We can't think of a better way to kick-start planning your eventual adventures abroad with a story set right where you want to go.

School already got your reading list packed? These short binge-worthy blogs and stories (all written by IES Abroad alumni!) are a great place to start!

“Ireland has produced many renowned authors: James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, W. B. Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift, and Bram Stoker, among others. You can walk the grounds of Trinity College, where many of these authors studied. I’ve done so several times, hoping that walking in their footsteps will bring me some surge of inspiration. You can attend events like readings of famous works, productions of plays, or even literary pub crawls that bring you to locations frequented by these authors. Dublin also has no shortage of grand libraries and quaint bookshops, for those like me who prefer to study or write in the comforting presence of walls and walls of books. My point is...Dublin has provided me with the opportunity to see what I read and study come to life.”

Every picture tells a story, and there are plenty from our IES Abroad Centers! Check them out on the #IESabroad feed

If you're looking for a more traditional way to plan your study abroad adventure, order a catalog! We'll send 'em to you for free and you can page through your program options across the globe, while admiring photos taken by students during their travels. 😍

Your story is just beginning.
We hope you're as excited for the next chapter as we are.

Choose Your Adventure

P.S. Reading’s not the only thing that can transport you. Check out one of our weekly information sessions to Zoom Around the World with IES Abroad staff and learn more about what your future study abroad experience can look like!
