The University of Portland is currently running its second customized program with IES Abroad in San José, Costa Rica, from May 11-June 17. The students are engaged in the community and their studies through the IES Abroad-taught Advanced Intensive Spanish Language course.
During this five-week program, students take part in business visits and cultural excursions to Los Santos, Rio Celeste, the Tirimbina Rainforest Center, and enjoy a two-day field trip to the Osa Peninsula.
In addition to academic activities and excursions, IES Abroad has also arranged four dance classes for students, allowing them to fully embrace the Costa Rican pura vida.
While in Costa Rica, students are staying with homestay families in Heredia, a suburb of San José. Living with homestay families allows the students to practice their Spanish and communication skills, and learn first-hand about the Costa Rican culture.
