Congrats to the Institute of International Education on its inaugural Summit on Generation Study Abroad!

We are thrilled to be able to both attend and support this event that’s the first of its kind. At IES Abroad, we believe strongly in the mission of doubling the number of U.S. students studying abroad by the end of the decade. So much so that we have made the following commitments to the IIE Summit on Generation Study Abroad and the Generation Study Abroad initiative:

We’re the Platinum Sponsor of the Summit

We are proud to financially support the Summit to help further the dialogue and help international educators collaborate in order to give more students access to the redefining experience of studying and interning abroad.

We’re Exhibiting: Meet IES Abroad Staff Members

Stop by our booth in the Exhibit Hall to meet staff from these departments: Diversity, Internships, Customized Programming; Student Affairs; College Relations & Advising; and Student Health, Safety, and Crisis Management.

Attending our Annual Conference next month and still have questions? You can also chat with the coordinator of our Annual Conference.

We’re Presenting: Attend Our Session on October 1 at 12 p.m.

Dr. Matt Rader, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students, is presenting on a panel titled, “Commitments that Work: Removing Barriers for Students with Disabilities.”

Matt will be sharing some of the strategies we have developed to reach students with disabilities and support them in pursuing a study abroad experience. This session is aligned with Theme 2 of the Summit, “What innovative solutions are most effective in increasing study abroad participation.”

We’re a Generation Study Abroad Commitment Partner

We have pledged to:

  • Provide $2+ million annually in study abroad scholarships to students from our Consortium, with an emphasis on need-based financial aid awards of higher amounts.

  • In the 2014-15 academic year, we awarded $2.5 million in financial aid and scholarships

  • Over the past 10 years, we have awarded $421,500 in HBCU/Diversity Aid specifically

  • Continue surveying and reporting on the impact of study abroad on careers among alumni, and publishing those findings.

  • We recently published our Membership Survey and sent the results to Consortium members, highlighting data on institutional efforts to enhance diversity in study abroad

  • In the future, we will conduct a survey to identify the impact of study abroad on careers among our alumni

  • Offer increased numbers of international internships, in addition to study abroad programs for students, highlighting the value of cross-cultural engagement in future careers and leadership roles.

  • We have added five new international internship locations in the past year: Berlin, Milan, Paris, Santiago, and Shanghai. These cities are in addition to our five existing locations in Barcelona, Dublin, London, Rome, and Sydney.
