We’ve reached a major milestone: More than 100,000 students have enrolled in IES Abroad programs since the organization was founded in 1950!
The lucky 100,000th student is Spring 2014 Granada student, Britini Williams, from Macalester College. As a thank you to Britini for choosing IES Abroad, she was awarded a travel voucher, good for a trip to one of our 35+ locations around the world.
To celebrate, IES Abroad Granada hosted a party on the Center’s outdoor terrace on the evening of Tuesday, April 29. The festive group included Britini and her fellow students, faculty, staff, and Britini’s host mom and her host mom's grandson.
Before presenting Britini with the award, Center Director Dr. Javier Martínez de Velasco kicked off the event by sharing the history of IES Abroad, our dedication to academic excellence, what ideals have stayed the same over the years, and how different—yet the same—the first study abroad experience was compared with Britini’s current experience. Javier also shared a letter that IES Abroad President and CEO Dr. Mary M. Dwyer wrote to Britini, expressing her sincere thanks for choosing IES Abroad and congratulations on her award.
“The beauty of the evening and the Alhambra presiding over the IES Abroad Center terrace gave us all a sense of solemnity," he said. "Britini was surrounded by her friends, her professors, the staff, and her host family."
Although she has not yet decided, Britini hopes to use the voucher towards a trip to Cape Town, South Africa, in December.
Congratulations, Britini!
