American Express (AMEX) hosted IES Internships New York Summer Internship participants at its corporate headquarters in the World Financial Center on Wednesday, July 20th, for a career-focused workshop.
The event included an overview of careers at American Express, a panel discussion by AMEX employees about the employee experience, and 30-minute, one-on-one résumé review sessions with Human Resources team members. The visit concluded with an opportunity for IES interns to speak informally with AMEX employees about jobs at the company.
The event is part of IES Internships’ series of New York company site visits, which, in 2016, has included trips to The New York Times and Yotpo, an Israeli tech startup. These site visits complement participants’ internship placements in television publicity, immigration law, fashion design and merchandising, solar technology, startup finance, marketing, and cross-cultural education.
Andrew Erwin, New York Program Director for IES Internships, explains, “Our company site visits give students an inside look at how employers like American Express recruit and hire. During the résumé workshop, students answered tough interview questions from real recruiters and learned how to describe their qualifications in concise and compelling terms. Vying for a competitive job, especially your first, can be intimidating. Now, when students get their first call back from a top employer, they’ll know what to expect and how to tackle it successfully.”
