On November 18 IES Abroad Alumni Engagement spent one hour In Conversation with Kate Lindsey (IES Abroad Vienna, Fall 2001) live from Vienna with IES Abroad Vienna Center Director, Morten Solvik.
After studying with IES Abroad Vienna Fall of 2001 and completing her degree at Indiana University mezzo-soprano, Kate Lindsey, has become one of the most important voices of her generation and appears regularly in the world’s most prestigious opera houses. Now back in live performance, she has shown her great diversity this season (2021-22) with a wide selection of new role debuts and new productions. At the Vienna State Opera, she kicked off her season in the trouser role of Nerone in the revival of the acclaimed and praised Salzburg production of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea. She’ll take on her role of Donna Elvira at Vienna State Opera’s new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on December 5th before singing Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte) at the Mozartwoche in Salzburg. In April 2022, at the London Coliseum, the mezzo takes on the lead role of Offred in the house’s new production of Paul Ruders’ The Handmaid’s Tale and performs as Orphée at the Washington Concert Opera. She finishes the season at Vienna State Opera’s premiere of L’Orfeo in the role of La Musica and La Speranza under the baton of Pablo Heras-Casado. There will be time for questions from the audience. This one hour program will be recorded.
