Hello, everyone, my name is Rachael Haugh and I will be one of the many correspondents for the trip to Dublin, Ireland this summer! I was born and raised in the beautifully green and always misty Portland Oregon where the summers are moderate and hipsters are everywhere. After finals week I came back to Portland and find myself now sitting in my room wondering how I will tackle the massive task of fitting everything in my packing list into a checked bag (which I will be living out of for two months). With the accompaniment of my family, I have been running errands looking for essential traveling-specific items: a power converter, a city map of Dublin, a sleeping mask, and most importantly, snacks.
Over these past two months, I have been working with IES staff members in order to secure an internship in Supply Chain and Business Information Systems in Ireland. I am thrilled to announce I have been selected by a trucking company to be their supply chain intern for the months of June and July! Established in 1996, this company is a family run trucking business which has experienced tremendous success in the past 22 years: they are the first logistics company in Ireland to earn a prestigious BRC Accreditation and became Irish Haulier of the Year in 2015. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about supply chain at TCU but am looking forward to refining and expanding upon the material I have learned in the classroom in a professional environment.
Ever since I knew I would be traveling to Ireland, I have been polling friends and searching the internet for things I would like to do while there. Here is a tentative list of things I would like to do and activities I would like to experience while in Ireland:
- Visit the Cliffs of Moher
- Go to Temple Bar (a cobbled riverside neighborhood with restaurants and river cruises)
- See the Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney stone for good luck
- Find a farmers market (possibly English Market)
- Connect with locals
- Spend the night in a castle
- See both Gaelic Football and Hurling games
In addition to my plans to immerse myself completely in Irish culture, I will be traveling to Amsterdam with a good friend from TCU. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and stay tuned to hear more about my upcoming experiences abroad!
Enjoy the rest of your day!
- Rachael
