The Blank White Wall (and the Things Beyond It)

Staring at a blank white wall
With blue around the edges
Sunlight streaming from the window
Pigeons peaking in

Even with the cooler air
I can't help but think I'm missing
Something on the outside bigger
Than a tiny hospital room

The wifi doesn't reach out here
Except for when it does
But one channel plays only Sherlock Holmes
Which I've found transcends all language

It isn't really boring
It isn't really dull
It just feels like missing out

When you have an allergy, always check your food before you eat it. I got a little over-excited and decided to use the "eat now, check later" strategy. No permanent harm done, luckily, but I did find out what Italian hospitals look like. Well at least private hospitals (very nice, in case anyone is wondering). Although I was well taken care of, it wasn't fun to spend time in a small white and blue room when the whole of Rome went spinning on without me.

My name is Kelli Hallmark and I'm a Trinity University student studying abroad in Rome for the summer. I first came to Italy when I was in junior high and fell deeply, madly, in love with the warmth and joy of Italian culture. I am currently double majoring in Religion and Art History, with aspirations to go into museum programming. In my free time I like to read everything in sight, write poetry and fiction, and make my own cosmetics.
