If you've been wondering what a busy day in my life looks abroad, click the YouTube link below to find out! Enjoy :)
This two-and-a half minute long video takes you through a busy Tuesday, with a twist. My Tuesdays abroad were the days I had the most commitments, and this video outlines how one of these days would look. I wake up early morning to get ready for my day, enjoy breakfast, and give a quick housing tour before I head out the door. After a 25-minute bike ride to class, I sit down in the IES Abroad Amsterdam Center for Positive Psychology (I also took some classes with the local Universiteit van Amsterdam in addition to the IES Abroad Center—I got the best of both worlds!). Positive Psychology isn't offered at my home school, so I am thrilled I had the chance to take it—its primary focus concerns researching human strengths and the components that comprise a good life.
After listening to peer presentations in Positive Psychology, I had an hour break until my Highlights of Dutch Art course, in which I ate a packed lunch and finalized my art presentation for that day. Soon enough, Dutch Art began, I gave a short presentation on a Dutch Artist (Jan van Toorop), and we received a lecture from our professor. Our Dutch Art class always opened with a lecture about specific artists or a school of design, and then moved to a museum for the second half of class (in today's class, we went to the Stedelijk Museum).
Here's where the twist begins: after exploring the Stedelijk, my friend Rohan and I biked to a Thai restaurant for dinner, then hurried to a bus station to meet other IES Abroad students and staff. Today we traveled to The Hague for a football game! We watched The Netherlands and the U.S. women's teams compete on the field, the U.S. team prevailing in the end. After a fun night of cheering in the stands, we bus home. It was quite the day.
